Senate approves development plan for Urbane Mitte Süd

With the approval of the development plan for Urbane Mitte Süd by the Berlin Senate, the urban quarter project has reached an important milestone. In the next step, the development plan will be submitted to the House of Representatives for approval. In the press release from the Senate Chancellery, Senator for Urban Development Christian Gaebler said: "With the development plan for Urbane Mitte Süd, we are creating the legal planning conditions for a lively, diverse urban quarter at Gleisdreieck. Together with the park and the excellent public transport connections, an urban place for Berliners is being created here in the center of the city. The development plan is an important first step in the implementation of the overall Urbane Mitte project."

The resolution passed by the Senate on July 1 was preceded by another Senate resolution in June. The Urbane Mitte Am Gleisdreieck was recognized as an area of exceptional urban policy importance. The Senate will therefore not only continue the Urbane Mitte Süd construction site but also the northern construction site. This means that planning will be in one hand in future. Particularly with regard to the existing subway lines and the planned S21 rapid transit line, the planning situation is complex. Berlin is now bundling the planning at the highest level in order to master the various challenges efficiently. This will ensure that development progresses in a targeted manner.
