Development plan for “Quartier Am Humboldthain” finalized! – The way is clear for modern education, research, and production facilities

The Mitte district has officially finalized development plan III-233-1 for the “Quartier Am Humboldthain.” With the publication of the legal ordinance in the Law and Ordinance Gazette, the way is clear for the development of around 234,000 square meters of flexible gross floor space. The former AEG site in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen will be home to spaces for education, research, production, and culture, complemented by restaurants, local amenities, and a start-up center.

BÜRO DR. VOGEL GMBH has been involved in the project as a development partner since the beginning. “The fact that we were able to get such a complex project off the ground in less than three years in terms of planning law is an extraordinary success. It shows what is possible when the administration, politicians, project partners, and the neighborhood all pull together,” says Dr. Markus Vogel, managing director of BÜRO DR. VOGEL GMBH.

Covering an area of around 6.5 hectares, the Quartier Am Humboldthain (QAH) is one of the largest inner-city development projects within Berlin's S-Bahn ring. The site is located in the Humboldthain Technology Park, one of Berlin's most central locations for the future. Demolition of existing buildings is scheduled to begin at the end of 2025, with completion of the new quarter planned for 2030.

The plan is to create a high-quality, functional, and innovative neighborhood consisting of five- to ten-story buildings and four high-rise buildings grouped around a spacious neighborhood park. The project has already been awarded the platinum pre-certificate by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for its ambitious sustainability standards.
