Kickoff of the “Urbane Mitte Süd” Design Competition
How do you continue development at one of Berlin’s most sensitive inner-city locations?
ollowing the Berlin House of Representatives’ final approval of Development Plan VI-140cab in March 2026, the next phase for “Urbane Mitte Süd” at the Gleisdreieck begins: the design competition.
Seven interdisciplinary teams specializing in architecture and landscape architecture are now working on the future of the Gleisdreieck site, located between Trebbiner Straße, the German Museum of Technology, Ostpark, and Luckenwalder Straße.

The task extends far beyond the design of individual buildings. The goal is to build upon the existing master plan and give it expression, scale, and identity at the building level. The Urbane Mitte Süd is intended to demonstrate that density, mobility, the quality of open spaces, and environmental responsibility can be conceived as an integrated whole, and that design quality can be combined with sustainability, economic efficiency, and long-term usability.
