BÜRO DR. VOGEL GMBH has been involved in the Urbane Mitte project since its inception. Together with Hans Panhoff, then City Councilor for Construction in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, the foundation for the development was laid. Twelve years of intensive planning and coordination are now behind us—and with the South Construction Site, the first concrete phase is about to begin.

The jury selected a concept that stands out for its public and transparent base structure. KSP Engel’s design deliberately responds to the site and the existing architecture of the surrounding area, placing them within a harmonious urban context.

A central element of the design is a large sports hall that connects the two sub-sites, VI and VII, thereby serving as the unifying backbone of the new urban block. The planned amenities are intended to benefit not only future tenants but also the public and visitors to the adjacent park—the South development site is intended to visibly enrich the park and its surroundings.

“Who would have thought what a long journey lay ahead for me personally and for our company when we literally got the Urbane Mitte project on track together with Hans Panhoff,” said Dr. Markus Vogel, managing director of BÜRO DR. VOGEL GMBH, reflecting on the past twelve years. “We are all the more pleased that the jury has now selected such a high-quality and compelling design for the first urban development phase.”
