Milestone for Urbane Mitte Süd: House of Representatives approves development plan
With the approval of development plan VI-140cab “Urbane Mitte Süd” by the Berlin House of Representatives, the way is now clear for a new, future-oriented urban quarter at Berlin's Gleisdreieck. The project is being built in the immediate vicinity of the Park am Gleisdreieck.
For over 10 years, BÜRO DR. VOGEL GMBH has been actively responsible as a development partner for the highly complex neighborhood project at the interface between Deutsche Bahn, BVG, private landowners, and the State of Berlin.
The development plan that has now been approved creates the planning law basis for a modern and sustainable neighborhood that blends into its surroundings. The existing park will be supplemented by additional publicly accessible areas. The result will be a new part of the city that combines urbanity with a high quality of life.
High-quality commercial and leisure uses are planned, which will strengthen the location and provide new impetus for the surrounding area. In the northern part (VI-140caa) of the overall area of the Urbane Mitte, urgently needed affordable housing is also to be built in the future. The current decision provides the necessary legal certainty and underscores how strategic planning and sustainable urban development can successfully intertwine.
Special thanks go to the Senate Department for Urban Development, Construction, and Housing under Senator Christian Gaebler, the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Office, Periskop Development GmbH, and all project partners involved for their constructive and professional cooperation.
