Town, Countryside, Escape! Happily, to and fro...

In his current contribution to “Wohn Dialog Berlin” (Accommodation Dialog), Dr. Markus Vogel, managing director of the BÜRO DR. VOGEL GMBH discusses the topic of urban densification. Central to this are the alternating phenomena of urban and rural depopulation in Berlin and the question as to whether this can be controlled.

The solution for this lies in the densification of the city and of the infrastructure. The current development of Berlin is only leading to an increase in the urban area and it is extending the daily commute. A densification of the city, on the other hand, can shorten daily journeys by means of corresponding infrastructure and thus also enhance the quality of life. This requires that the concept of the city, in terms of density, is newly thought out and in a manner that is free of ideological barriers.
